Dare to Prepare Miscellaneous

Have a 1 – 2 liter stainless steel thermos… you can place one cup or rice and 2 cups of boiling water in it, seal it up and the thermos will steam the rice for you…

Instead of canned goods, work towards making your entire foodstuffs freeze dried. The shelf life is much longer… you do not have to worry about spoilage (like botulism in any canned tomato product).

Go over the border into Mexico and get as many antibiotics as you can… buy penicillin and several other types… cypro (sp?). expiration dates placed on them in the U.S. are not real. They last at least 4 – 5 years longer than the expiration date… they are also cheaper and over the counter there…

From Survival Unlimited.com, 225-647-8192,
(235 N Airline HWY, Gonzales, LA 70737-3006, ordered the following:
First Responder Medic Kit – Orange bag for 124.00, (this is the kit that includes airways, sutures, and many other medical supplies that are difficult for the average person to purchase)
Dental repair kit AMK for 29.00 and a Freeplay Plus radio w/led flashlight for 89.00.

Reminder me that it is essential to have both a windup flashlight and a windup radio…

We need bags of lime – whatever dies should be covered with lime to stop the spread of disease.

Lots of bottles of bleach to clean counters, plates, silverware, utensils, medical instruments etc…

Purchase only long grain white rice – it stores forever and does not breakdown.
Avoid brown rice for that reason.

To prevent the bird flu – purchase copper impregnated masks that last 48 hours. www.nan2mask.com
We thought the product was called the nano2mask… the NM gov is beginning to make public announcements about preparing for emergencies… this is where they are headed, but do not want to frighten people, so they are working their way into it…700 people in India got bird flu – it is 12 – 16 hours from exposure to severe illness with a 76% death rate. We should be prepared to help others by throwing supplies to them but staying completely away from them if bird flu is known to be present.

Kakatdyn water filter will clean up to 30,000 gallons of water. They are made in Europe and very good. Emergency Essentials sells them and many other good products.
We need to think about how we are going to store water …

The Mormons are a great resource for long term storage.
Their attitude is 3 and 3 – think 3 months and three years…
that there will be 3 month periods of time when we are not able to get one product,
and that will be the case off and on for 3 years. There may be availability for a time for any product,
and then we will be out of it again…

Making the Best of Basics – the Family Preparedness Handbook by James Talmage Stevens, published by Peton Corp, PO Box 11925, Salt Lake City 84147… available on Amazon.
This book has been around a long time – first published in the late 60’s or early 70’s…
many suggestions and how to’s, esp about food.
